How to make a new year's resolution and succeed
The new year is a great time to start fresh and make changes. But as the new year approaches with new resolutions , it’s easy to overlook the hard work and commitment it takes to achieve a goal.
These few steps will help bring simplicity and clarity to your resolution, setting you up to succeed rather than give up.
Get it out of your head that you “can’t do it.”
You have to believe in yourself! If you don’t think you can do something then you might as well throw in the towel. If you catch yourself thinking this way, simply saying positive affirmations like, “I can do it,” will help!
Write down what you want.
This seems like the easiest part, but you need to be specific. Working out 4 days a week? Write down exactly when and what/how you’re working out.
Write down why you want it.
Really ask yourself why. Why are you doing what you're doing? This will serve as motivation when you feel like leaving your goal behind. There may be more days than not where you feel like giving up. Your “why” is what’s going to keep you going when you feel like you can’t go any further.
Create small daily habits.
Small changes over time are what create the big changes. Start with one habit you want to change. It could be waking up earlier or drinking more water. Once you’ve mastered one habit, you can slowly start to add more.
